Desperately seeking the name of a book?

I read a book a few years ago. The story line is of a detective who is hunting down killers. One of the killers breeds spiders & is starting to look like a spider himself. The detective has 2 friends that help him & one is called Angel. The whole thing is based around a book (the book of bones/dead??). It is made of human skin & Angels back is flayed for the skin at one point. It is very graphic (almost like horror). I think from memory that his wife/ex-wife/girlfriend is deaf or blind & the killer goes after her. The neighbour comes to help (his name is Bear) & he ends up getting killed. I think that the detective is present throughout a number of books by the same author. Any ideas??? Thanks
