To get more than 80 minutes on an audio CD?

Hello, I have with me here an ordinary blank CD-R that (so it informs me) can record on it up to 700 MB or 80 minutes. I also have around 340 MB (around 44 hours) of audio I want on a CD. My question: why can’t there be more than eighty minutes? There’s plenty of room on the stupid thing; eighty minutes of audio hardly takes up 12 MB. Why this ridiculous limitation? And, more importantly, is there any way around it?

Its because your average CD played cannot read the music encoded in mp3 format.

It can only read CDA tracks, which have a MUCH higher bitrate than mp3.

Most mp3’s have a bitrate of between 128 and 320 kbps (kilobits) which is equal to about 16 – 40 kilobytes per second of the song.

A CDA track however has a bitrate of 1411.2 kbps or 176.4 kilobytes per second.

Your average 4 minute song in mp3 format is only 9.375 megabytes, while the same song in CDA format is 41.34 megabytes.

As you can see, CD quality audio is much higher than mp3.
