Princess Story
How come no one has copied the zelda story yet for a movie or tv show?
It seems so simple and cliched but that’s not true because nothing else has done it. A princess comes to you in your dreams and asks you for help or something similar. along with the story of ganon and the triforce. A simple rescue the princess story that has never actually been used outside of the games. Is it because no one thinks it would work?
They have. There exists both a Zelda TV series and a movie.
The cartoon television series, which was more of a parody of Zelda than anything else, aired between September 8 to December 1, 1989, but was cancelled. IGN gave it a 3 out of 10. All around, it was just a bad show. Head on over to Youtube and see for yourself.
A feature-length fan movie was made a small, independent group called BMB Finishes. The movie, called The Legend of Zelda: Hero of Time, was available at select theaters in the U.S. in late 2009. There’s not much to say about it; it’s not much better than the TV series, only Zelda fans would be able to sit through the whole thing. Here’s a trailer for the Hero of Time:

You see, this stuff just doesn’t work. It really doesn’t. It’s been proven, time and time again. All us Zelda fans will have to accept that a good Zelda TV series or movie, or even book, is just not going to happen. Whatever you may say about the clichés, just think as though you weren’t a Zelda fan for a moment. Would you want to see a movie in which the main character was a guy in a green tunic, tights and ridiculous hat? You’d probably think it was a joke.
The only way for a good Zelda movie (and by good I mean appealing to more than just Zelda fans) is if the movie was only loosely based on the games. That way they could ditch the green clothes and the clichéd nonsense about collecting gems and medallions to save the princess, and make it more Robin Hood style (I’m sure you’ve seen the previews for that movie, starring Russel Crowe). Plus, you’d need a fairly good budget, which is almost impossible since no Hollywood company would take that risk. There’s simply not enough fans that love Zelda to convince that the movie will have a good turnout.
